Year 5 Viking Day
Year 5 were visited by History Off The Page for a Viking experience day! They dressed as Vikings and were fully immersed into a Viking village. The children spent the morning exploring different workstations set up within the hall. Activities included:
- Visiting the wise woman for potions for an illness
- Making a warrior bracelet and weaving
- Candle making
- Clay figurines of Viking gods
- Necklace making
- Illuminated letters
- Making their own ink for writing with a quill
- Clay pots
- Making a pouch and clay rune
Some children even took on Lord Ulf (Patrick, our leader for the day) in a strategic game of Hnefatafl - pronounced as nef-ah-tah-fel. Mrs Briggs enjoyed the game so much that she ordered it for the children to play in school!
In the afternoon, the children learnt how to protect themselves from enemy attack using shields - an activity thoroughly enjoyed by all! They then transported back to present time and visited the Viking village as archaeologists!
Mrs Spilling and Mrs Briggs were so grateful for all the parents (and a Nana!) who came to help. This day couldn't have happened without your support.
