Year 3 Trip to Chelmsford Museum
Year 3 had a fantastic visit to Chelmsford museum on Tuesday as part of their ‘Stone Age to Iron Age’ topic. They had an absolutely jam-packed day of hands-on experiences that led them back in time and helped develop their archaeological detective skills. It was such a pleasure to witness the children making links to the learning they have already done in class and to see them so engaged in the topic. They experienced a range of activities led by the museum staff including; handling Stone Age objects including tools, weapons and clothing and making guesses about their use; investigating cave paintings and drawing their own with authentic tools and natural pigments; exploring the Stone Age to Iron Age gallery to investigate major changes across the time period and recording these on ipads; practising Stone Age skills including making cord from hemp, grinding grain, weaving and using a bow drill. There were certainly some tired children on the coach home! Well done Year 3 for a super Stone Age day!
