Year 6 Paul Nash inspired Art
Year 6 artworks, drawn using oil pastel, were inspired by Paul Nash’s 1918 oil painting ‘Ypres Salient at Night’. The atmospheric night scene depicts the battlefield and trenches being lit up by a barrage of exploding shells.
The artworks Nash produced during WW1 are among the most iconic images of the conflict. Although Nash was working as an official war artist, his paintings could hardly be described as propaganda for any nation’s cause. He painted it in the same spirit as the war poets wrote their poetry - he wanted those at home who still supported the war to know what it was like.
