Science in Year 4 and Year 5!
Our broad and balanced Science curriculum allows for some exciting experiments that deepen the children's understanding and allow them to physically get involved!
In Year 4, the children investigated how to change pitch on a stringed instrument. They made their own guitars and found out that the thicker the sting (elastic band), the lower the pitch. They also found out they could change the pitch of a string by shortening it. They did this by placing their finger over different parts of the string. Shortening the string made the pitch higher.
In Year 5, the children investigated soluble and insoluble materials by stirring them into water and watching to see if they dissolved or not. They found out that sometimes warmer water was needed to dissolve materials such as salt! They loved how the vegetable cooking oil floated on the surface of the water and how the pepper changed the colour of the water!
