Year 5 Geography Fieldwork
As part of their Volcanoes & Earthquakes topic, Year 5 carried out some fieldwork assessing the school buildings and grounds to see if it was well protected from a volcanic eruption!
The question that was posed was: Where in our school is the riskiest during a volcanic eruption?
They learnt about the world famous Peverel Volcano and identified it's location in relation to our school site! They decided on things that might protect them like a strong roof (quite apt with our RAAC situation!), heat proof shelters, breathing equipment, emergency supplies and getaway vehicles. Then they went about the school grounds carrying out an Environmental Survey, ranking and investigating 5 locations of their choice from 1-5 of most risk.
Finally, they wrote a report highlighting their findings and stating which location would keep them the safest.
