Y5 'Why Money Matters' workshop
Year 5 had a fantastic morning with a company called Ootiboo (https://play.ootiboo.com/) exploring the importance of money and how we should spend it. First, they learnt about the origins of money and different currencies around the world. Then they were introduced to several strange but real-life jobs such as snake-milking (milking the venom of snakes to make antidotes), frozen pea tester, bed tester and being a panda ‘Nanny’! The children chose to be one of these jobs and then were given their ‘wages’ in Ootiboo’s fake currency, ‘ootiballoons’.
Now for the best bit - the children got to go around some stalls and spend their ootiballoons. They split into two groups and each got a chance to be a seller and a buyer on the marketplace. It was very interesting to see the bargaining going on - we definitely have some Del Boys on our hands! We feel so lucky to have had the chance to experience this free of charge workshop endorsed by Dragon’s Den’s Deborah Meaden! We are so proud of how wonderful the children were and displayed our CARE values beautifully. Well done Year 5!
